1. There is a large Polish community in Haringey
Many people of Polish origin have made their home in Haringey! As the community has grown, so has the support available, including:
- Shops that sell Polish produce
- Community groups and activities
- Dedicated church services
- Sunday schools where children can learn the culture and language
2. Join a local community of people from Poland and other Eastern European countries
It’s comforting to speak with people who share a similar background and culture, especially when you are settling in London. This can be in a religious centre or another community setting.

3. It helps to meet people from all walks of life
Haringey is a diverse area of London, so you will meet people of all backgrounds. We joined local groups and activities to meet with locals. It also provided a great way to practise our English in the early stages.

4. Visit your local shop that sells Polish produce
Visiting a shop is not just about buying food and other goods! Shopkeepers and their staff usually have a lot of knowledge of the local area. They may be able to answer questions you have, tell you about events and social groups, or point you in the right direction to get the help you need.

5. Enrol your child in a weekend school to learn the Polish culture and language
There are a number of Polish schools in London that run weekend classes for children, and offer activities for the whole family. Each organisation has a different offering so get in touch with them to find out more.

6. Keep in touch with all things Poland through radio, websites and more
- Websites - the top three websites are Londynek, Cooltura & Goniec
- Radio - radio stations like Radio ORLA.FM broadcast to the UK and Poland. Others like ‘Polish Radio London’ broadcast to London alone.
- TV - there are a few Polish TV channels available in London, but you need to pay a monthly fee to access them. Get in touch with your TV provider to find out more.
7. Embassies provide a range of services to resident nationals from their home country
They are well known for helping with citizenship services such as passport replacements / renewals, and voting in elections, but many offer additional support. For example, they may provide a list of local doctors and lawyers.

The Polish community
There are a number of ways to connect with people of Polish origin in and around Haringey - here we list the main options.
- Search for nearby centres, shops and more using a free navigation app like Google Maps - enter keywords in the search bar e.g. ‘Polish church’, ‘Polish school’, ‘Polish shop’
- Check before you visit - many organisations are running remote or limited services because of Coronavirus

Visit the Connected Communities team and show this app on your smartphone to collect a stamp card

2. Attend an activity or local group from the list below
Show your stamp card to a staff member along with this app on your smartphone. They will give you one stamp for each visit.

3. Exchange stamps for local rewards
Once your stamp card is complete, exchange it for a reward:
- Swap 5 stamps for a DVD or audio rental at any Haringey library
- Swap 10 stamps for an activity at Fusion Lifestyle, Tottenham Green Pools & Fitness (1 Philip Lane, London, N15 4JA)
